UPDATE - MAY 30, 2020.  WE HAVE JUST RECEIVED WORD THAT THE KASLO MUNICIPAL CAMPGROUND IS CANCELLING ALL GROUP CAMPS THIS SUMMER DUE TO COVID-19.  THE CAMPGROUND IS OPEN FOR RV'S BUT WILL NOT ACCOMMODATE GROUPS LIKE OURS.  THEREFORE WE ARE REGRETTABLY CANCELLING THIS EVENT.  HOPEFULLY WE CAN RETURN TO KASLO NEXT SUMMER.  

The Kaslo Municipal Campground is located in beautiful downtown Kaslo right on the shores of Kootenay Lake.  Our camping area is a nice shady, grassy field that is separated from the RV portion of the campground.  You may have noticed that we have massaged the dates a bit this year.  We've booked the campsite from Friday to Monday this year.  A number of our members like to attend Kaslo then stick around the area for the BC Beemers event in Nakusp the following weekend.  Reserving the site until Monday makes for a great 4 day weekend and a shorter interval between events.  

Last year the cost was $10 per tent per night and we don't anticipate a change this year.  Click on the link in the venue section below for directions and a map.  There is room for up to 4 RV's to park along the road next to our camping area.  This will be on a first come, first served basis.  #5 and onward will have to make their own arrangements to camp in the regular campground or otherwise.  There are also a couple of good motels within walking distance.  

The campground is a short walk to the downtown area where you'll find a great mix of eclectic shops and restaurants.  You can tour the SS Moyie paddle wheeler which is on display on the Kaslo Waterfront.  There is also a great circle walking tour of the town.  

As part of the weekend a trip to the almost ghost town of Sandon is well worth the trip.  There is a good museum there and the old power plant has been restored and is open for tours.  It has been in continuous operation for over 100 years. We've heard that the ride up to Idaho Peak from Sandon is not in good shape.  There were some pretty good washouts which may not be repaired in time for the summer.   

A great circle route starts up Hwy 31 to the head of Kootenay Lake and Duncan Dam.  This first portion is wonderful twisty pavement with virtually no traffic.  If you enjoy some gravel the road continues north past Trout Lake before circling over to Galena Bay then south to Nakusp and New Denver.  This is an excellent day trip.  

If you're looking for a circle route that involves only pavement, the loop south through Nelson, west to Castlegar, north to Slocan and New Denver is awesome as well.
