Brian Helm has once again stepped up and invited us back for our Summer Solstice Camp-N-Ride weekend. We're going to tie this one together with our June Breakfast Ride which will also be in nearby Keremeos, only 3.6 km away from the Farm. Click on the venue name below for more information on the farm and directions on how to find it.
There is some genuinely nice riding in the area, both paved and unpaved. A couple of GS style rides are close by. Fairview Road goes up over the mountain to Oliver. It is a nice gravel road with several recreational campsites and lakes on the way. Another is Ashnola Road to Cathedral Provincial Park which I've been wanting to do for some time.
There are a couple of swimming holes on the Similkameen River relatively close by. One about 5 minutes away and another on the other side of Keremeos by the Ashnola Bridge. A bit further away is Bromley Rock Provincial Park which has a decent swimming hole when the water drops.
There are no restaurants within walking distance but there are a couple of good ones within a 5-minute ride. They are Row 14 Restaurant at Klippers and Crowsnest Vineyards. There are also a couple of other Restaurants in Keremeos which is only a 5- or 10-minute ride away. Don’t forget that the Keremeos area is famous for it’s many fruit stands.
As usual, we'll have a coffee pot on in camp each morning (bring your own mug) and on Saturday we usually ask you to bring a breakfast treat to share for breakfast. (muffins, donuts, fruit, cheese etc.)
We're not sure yet if we will try to arrange a group dinner on Saturday night. We may try to figure out some way to bring food in.
We are pairing this Camp-n-Ride with our June Breakfast Ride which will happen on Sunday morning at Honest Food Farms, 3.6 km away in nearby Keremeos. The Breakfast Ride is listed separately in our event calendar for those who want to partake but aren't going to camp.

Description
The Helm Family owns a farm/orchard in Cawston which is just east of Keremeos on Hwy 3. The family occasionally hosts car groups for camps or visits, and is located on Barcello Road on the bluff overlooking Cawston to the south. The camping area is an exceptionally large grassy area situated just above the bluff. Honestly, it will be like pitching a tent on a golf course. There are some trees for shade around the perimeter, a shelter, a fire pit a couple of picnic tables.
Potable water is available and we will bring in some portable toilets. RV’s and trailers are welcome on the site, but there are no hook-ups available. We'll direct you where you can park. The family has also requested that you leave your dogs at home. There are a couple of elderly family dogs on site that are very friendly with people but they don't do well with visiting dogs.
The Helm family has an impressive collection of old vehicles of all types spread around the property as well as some other interesting bits of machinery and other antiques. Some of the collection is in the buildings and other parts are adorning the lawns. You could spend the entire weekend looking over the collection. There are also some beautiful gardens on the site. The family is rightfully proud of their farm and they love sharing it with others.
The Helm Family Farm is located on Barcello Road in Cawston. The driveway entrance is at N 49.194009, W 119.754488 for the GPS enabled.
- If driving south on Hwy 3A towards Keremeos, turn left on Upper Bench Rd which is 940 Meters past the Bear Fruit Stand. Follow Upper Bench Rd for 5.5 Km to the Farm. (Upper Bench Road will become Barcello Road)
- If coming from Princeton on Hwy 3, turn north on Hwy 3A. Upper Bench Road is a right turn 1.1 Km from the junction. Follow Upper Bench Rd for 5.5 km to the Farm. (Upper Bench Road will become Barcello Road.)
- If coming from Osoyoos, just before entering Cawston, turn right on Barcello Road. Follow Barcello Road 7.3 km to the Farm.
We will have our club banners out on Barcello Road indicating the driveway.
