So with most plans cancelled or in limbo Kathy, Lucy and I loaded up the old Dually/Camper and drug the Rig on a little trek out to Nelson, then on to Fernie and Home via Highway 95
Had a nice unplanned visit with some of Kathy's family and lots of hikes. Though we had to change some planned hikes cause Lucy wasn't allowed. Grrrr but then I guess I wouldn't want some rambunctious teenager tearing up my back yard and chasing the wild life either. So a begrudgingly complied. Even with some of the planned excursions curtailed we still managed to put a couple tankfuls of fuel through the GS rig.

We spent 4 Nights just parked at Kootenay Creek Provincial Campground. It is a wonderful Central spot to head out from. First Day was a hike up to Pulpit Rock across from Nelson. Damn near killed me with the heat but I made it. Kathy and Lucy skipped up the steep rocky trails like it was flat. ( Of Course ) Great views of the town from up there. Once down and headed to the water to cool off we had the usual Lucy in the Sidecar with Doggles delays. She got hot and was happy to relax in the shade while we had lunch on the deck of the Hume hotel.

The next day was up to Kootenay glacier to hike around the lake. But Lucy is prohibited in that provincial park so we only went as far as Old Growth Trail. A Rec site. Some wonderful huge trees and remnants of mining equipment. There was a lead mine way up and they used a trolly system to get the ore out. After that I wanted to see if I could find a spot that some of the guys had posted on ADV. The Ainsworth Cemetery. was able to convince Kathy with a promise of Ice Cream in Ainsworth. Found the spot but it is barely a road with interesting water control gates. I was happy but Kathy was not amused. Turns out it is still an active cemetery. We did manage to find the beach and settled for Ice Cream cones at the Ferry terminal in Balfour.

Still can't figure out how to fix my pictures. But these give one the scale of the trees and our lunch spot on the side of the road . Some how our site should be able to just fix Landscape or Portrait pictures.

Turns out one of Kath's Nieces was staying at the camp site-- A shot of us heading out on a day trip.


Then it was on to Fernie

Island Lake lodge is a wonderful spot. As was our camp site. Found some nice easy hikes around. And the Dog park for Lucy seeing as she hadn't had much off leash activity.

Unfortunately there wasn't much Side car use after Fernie as we moved every day. Plus I realized I need to add a Boat to my load of gear I take with us. BC has so many wonderful spots on a lake of some sort that would be awesome to explore by water. Maybe I'll have to take up Fishing to justify it. Not!!
We had a stop at Fort Steele, Ive been by here many time but never stopped in. Lots of local history but most of the building shut up tight due to "you know"


Then it was on to Wasa Lake Provincal park. Just stopped for lunch and decided it was nice enough to stay the night.

Then we made the trek into Whiteswan Provincal Park. Now this is on my list of spot that I have to go back to. The 30 k one way of dusty road wasn't nice to the Rig sitting in the worst of it but hey I'll wash it next time it rains Ha!
