Howdy Folks:

My name is Daniel Davidson, and I ride a 2002 R1150RT (115,000 kms) out of Princeton, BC. I am one of those guys who parked my 2 Wheeler back in the late 1970's when my children came along, and recently decided to get back onboard three seasons ago. This, my third Season back, is my first experience with a BMW, and other than the ridiculous expense of maintenance, and the most uncomfortable saddle I've ever ridden in, I'm pretty happy with the bike overall. Although I have just Retired after 12 years here in Princeton as a TTOC (Substitute Teacher), my formal career of over 30 years was that of a Professional Commercial Mariner (no, not a fisherman).

So, if there are any other "Old Salts" out there, please drop a line and say hello.

Welcome aboard and it was a pleasure meeting you in Hedley today.

I too am riding an 1150 (2001 R1150GS) and I'm finding the bike pretty easy to maintain. I bought a Clymer manual and so far I've been able to do all the maintenance and repairs myself. That certainly keeps the maintenance cost down as there is a great aftermarket for parts. Things like seals and bushings I've ordered from the local dealer and I've picked up some other items on-line. There is no end of information and You-tube how to videos available to keep these beauties alive.

If you've been taking the bike to a dealer for service I can see where the cost of maintenance gets up there. Particularly for the RT as the mechanic has to take off a lot of Tupperware to get at anything. Dealers also aren't very well inscented to work on older bikes like ours. They would much rather sell you a new one.

Anyway, if you need any help or information on service on your bike, let me know. I certainly haven't done everything on my bike (yet) but I've learned a lot in the last couple of years and I would be happy to help if I can.

Thanks for the Invite, Dan. However, I'm not able to attend due to prior commitments, yet I do intend to drop by and visit everyone who attends the Merritt Gathering later in June. I sure appreciated the knowledge and experience of some of the VBR Club Members that I had the pleasure of chatting with in Hedley, and I am looking forward to continuing some of the conversations that we shared. Hope to met you there too?

Recently retired, my wife and I moved from Alberta to Kelowna in December, 2017. I ride a 2015 BMW R1200GS but I've owned a Honda VFR and a BMW F800GS in the past. I am interested in finding a 70's BMW for restoration. I like to travel and have motorcycled throughout Canada and in Japan, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, GB, Spain, Namibia and South Africa. My other hobbies include fly fishing and scuba diving. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody and intend to participate in as many club activities as possible.

Hi James and welcome aboard. I won't be able to attend the Merritt Camp-N-Ride next weekend (June 21-24) but I am planning to ride over for the Breakfast in Merritt on Sunday, the 24th. (I'm in Kelowna). Hopefully we'll get a chance to meet at the breakfast.
